"Despite the sense that eating disorders are inescapable, there is a way to escape. You can set yourself free.”

When the safety of being loved and accepted requires fat loss and food restriction, our most vital psychological and physical needs to survive are threatened. The need for human connection and the need for food are put at war with each other, awakening ancient life and death mechanisms that feels like a fight for life.

If you've sought treatment for your eating disorder you were probably told:

  • It's genetic and you will battle urges to binge and diet the rest of your life.

  • You have an addiction or a disease, and its a matter of time before you relapse. You are powerless.

  • You must eat on a schedule so that you NEVER get hungry.

  • You are an addict and must restrict grain, gluten, avoid sugar at ALL cost.

  • You have "Leptin Resistance" and that's why you can't stop eating.

The reason you are told these things, is because there aren’t consistent scientific answers for the root causes are of an eating disorder. Why a person clutches onto eating disorder behaviors, despite the horrendous psychological and physical consequences, is largely unknown.

For the past 50 years, the way eating disorders have been approached as a genetic and personal psychological problem—has had very poor recovery rates. This is why people often claim, “You will NEVER recover.” But with a better understanding of the social implications, the paradigm is changing.
